Pancakes are a symbol of protection, beauty and healing. They are also a symbol of the home where the family gathers to eat pancakes. With this quote, I am making a connection between pancakes and the scars on her face. This idea is probably inspired by the old saying, “Pancakes make good skin.” It can be interpreted in a negative way that she is hiding her scars from the rest of the world but I see it in a positive way that she is hiding them from herself, or that she does not want to see them because they remind her of what she has been through.
